Diebold Behavioral Counseling

Diebold Behavioral Counseling, i.e. D.J. Diebold (Scottsdale)
D.J. Diebold has been serving the Scottsdale and Phoenix metropolitan areas of Arizona for many years.

Our Arizona counseling services focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and uses it in an eclectic approach that helps clients obtain fast results. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the idea that thoughts, not external forces or situations, cause feelings and behaviors, and that when those thoughts and feelings are changed, actions and responses are improved, even if the situation does not change.

One of the reasons our Scottsdale counseling uses CBT is because of the rapid results and finite duration. The average number of sessions clients receive is much less than other forms of therapy (which can take years).

CBT is a collaborative effort. Clients change because they learn how to think, process and act differently and are empowered with rational self-counseling skills that do not rely on the relationship with the therapist. Each session will have a specific agenda for the client and teach particular techniques and concepts. As the counseling progresses, clients can unlearn habitual and unwanted reactions and learn how to respond instead of react.

D.J. believes in long term results and in empowering clients so that they understand how and why they are doing well so they can continue to improve. One of the reasons CBT works so well is that the client is also an active participant. Sessions end with homework assignments and life practice where the techniques learned are put into action in the real world.

We are invested in the success of each and every client and invite you to contact Diebold Behavioral Counseling/D.J. Diebold now.

Message from D.J. Diebold

As a behavioral health therapist, I’ve worked for and with a wide range of behavioral health providers, including maximum-security prisons, probation departments, clinics, and with many diverse cultures and races, including Native Americans.

As a behavioral health therapist, author and motivational speaker, I try to take a spiritual approach to life’s dynamics. To perform at the highest level, you’ve got to walk the talk and lead by example. I believe that when clarity, honesty and compassion are interwoven with the daily fabric of our lives, happiness empowers us to accomplish virtually anything we can think, feel or imagine.

I was born in Oak Park, Illinois, the home of Ernest Hemingway and Frank Lloyd Wright. The oldest of four boys within five years, attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, run by the tough, discipline-minded Christian Brothers.

While attending DuPage College, I was drafted into the U.S. Army and became a Personnel Management Specialist and Vietnam Era Veteran. Subsequent to my military duty, I attended Northern Illinois University, earning my degree in Sociology, with an emphasis on behavior modification and cultural competency.

At the Illinois Youth Center/Joliet, I performed clinical counseling in a maximum-security setting to both gang-related youths and their families. In addition, I provided counseling services for Arizona State Prison and later, for New Arizona Family, Inc. in Phoenix as a behavioral health professional in the role of Board Certified and State Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC). Clinical services clientele there included probationers and parolees mandated to court ordered treatment, in addition to general mental health clients.

I also have counseled for The Gila River Health Care Corporation providing services for the Gila River and Ak Chin Native American Tribes on the reservation (just southeast of Phoenix, AZ). This population requires unique skills and a proficient level of cultural competency.

Recently, I functioned as clinical liaison with a local provider for the Maricopa County Drug Court. This program coordinated substance abuse counseling with periodic urine analysis testing, supervised by the Maricopa County Probation Department under the auspices of the aforementioned court.

In particular, I take pride in offering a broad range of psychotherapeutic modalities. These include all addictions, including alcohol, (DUI problems), methamphetamine addiction, cocaine addiction, heroin addiction, marijuana addiction, generalized substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship solutions, stress management training, DMV driver’s license reinstatement evaluations, grief, trauma and life coaching. Please read the statute governing these modalities on the home page.

My clients genuinely are my world and my mission in life. It would be a genuine honor to serve you, a family member, or a loved one.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me, D.J. Diebold at Diebold Behavioral Counseling.
